Sometimes a repair is not sufficient to fix your furnace. Sometimes a new furnace is the most cost-effective and energy-efficient way to go. We will always be honest with you about a possible furnace replacement. We value our time and your money––we don’t want to perform repairs or service on an appliance that is in need of replacement.
If you do need a furnace replacement, we know how overwhelming it can be. Here are some of the frequently asked questions about furnaces that we get from some of our Pennsylvania residents:
What Are The Different Types Of Furnaces?
Single Stage: A single-stage furnace has only one stage of operation. It can either be turned on or turned off.
Two Stage: A two-stage furnace has two settings––full and half speed. This is a more efficient way to heat and provides for better comfort, because it can move the air at a slower pace.
Variable Stage or Modulating: A variable-stage or modulating furnace modulates the speed and heat output based on the temperature outside and the desired comfort level. This furnace only works as much as you need it, making this type the most energy-efficient type of furnace.
What Is AFUE?
AFUE, or Annualized Fuel Utilization Efficiency, is a measure of furnace-heating efficiency. The higher the AFUE, the more efficient the furnace.
What Size Furnace Do I Need?
We can calculate the correct size furnace for your home. The number of BTUs, or British Thermal Units, needed to heat your home is dependent on a number of variables. Contrary to what you might think, a bigger furnace may not necessarily mean more heating power for your home. Call us at Comfortable Design Inc, and we can set up an appointment to calculate the furnace size you might need.

Gas Furnace Installation in Wrightsville, PA 17368
“Comfortable Design has come to my rescue twice this year. After flooding in my basement took out my Gas Water heater, Joe was able to replace it by the very next day. More Recently, my gas furnace died in the winter cold. I contacted Joe & he and his son came out the next morning & installed a new unit. The work is excellent, the prices reasonable & I would recommend to any and everyone.”

Gas Furnace Replacement in Columbia, PA 17512
“This company was so wonderful to work with, installers were so knowledgeable, & very honest! I did not have to worry about anything! I listed the service as a gas furnace, but it also is a central air conditioner, & the heat is propane gas. I am so very, very pleased & warm now. We had an old heat pump but also used a wood stove in the winter to help to keep warm, now that is not needed, thank goodness! I would recommend this company to anyone that needs any kind of service. They are the best and I will use them again for any other needs I may have! Thank you Joe & the rest! Try them, you will not be disappointed!”

Gas Furnace Repair in Lancaster, PA 17601
“The property management company that handles my property dealt with an emergency loss if heat by finding me a contractor that wanted to charge me a RIDICULOUS amount of money for repairing the motor on my furnace. A small fortune! We called Joe at CDH and not only was his quote reasonable but he was at the house within a half hour to do a diagnostic and completed the job within 24 hours. He was kind, courteous, professional and fast. I am thrilled to have found him and fortunate to be able to trust that he'd get the job done. We live in NC and it's difficult to manage a property from so far away. I do not recommend the management company who I thought was protecting my interests as a homeowner (YPMG) but I highly recommend Joe and Comfortable Design Heating & Co for your home heating issues.
GOOD FOLKS THAT DO A GREAT JOB!!!!”
